An ideal stop over on our way to Monterey Bay from Morro Bay

The distance between Morro Bay and Monterey Bay is farther than we wanted to commit to. There is only one viable refuge on this part of the coast and that is San Simeon. The home of Hearst Castle.
This is a beautiful little bay that offers pretty good protection from surge and good anchor holding. The beach is lovely and hiking trails abound. We landed on the beach in our dinghy without incident. The surf was very tame.
Right on the beach is a picnic area, restrooms, convenience store and wine tasting bar with beach front patio.
The weather forecast for our trip to Monterey Bay looks good. Bright and early in the morning we weigh anchor and head north.
