Seven Days In Benicia Muni Marina
The Benicia Municipal Marina, like the Martinez Marina, is located on the Carquinez Straits between San Francisco Bay and the Delta. We met several transient mariners here on their way into the Delta.
This marina is one of our favorites for several reasons. Not the least of which is the fact that the City appears to be committed to maintaining it’s facilities to a high level. Buildings, docks and surrounding grounds are all maintained in good condition.
Why Stop At This Marina?
If you like getting off the boat and exploring then Benicia Municipal Marina has much to offer. It is located only two blocks from the historic waterfront district where restaurants and boutique businesses abound. If you are into walking, as we are, then there is plenty to see and do within a mile of the marina.
The marina is modern, well kept and has easy access to the fuel dock and pump-out station. The fuel dock also doubles as transient dock. But, it’s not very big and space is limited. In our case they found an empty slip for our extended stay. The staff is very accommodating and pleasant.
We were here in late July and the weather was very comfortable. The steady breeze from the San Francisco Bay helps moderate temperatures.
The marina is adjacent to a very nice little park and has a substantial yacht club adjacent. A short walk along the water front to First Street opens the door to exploration.
What’s Not To Like?
I have to think long and hard to find anything negative. Certainly nothing within the scope of their control. We could wish for a larger dock for transients but there just isn’t the space.
The only thing that was challenging to us was dealing with the wind. It blows from the West pushing boats approaching the fuel dock off. If you’re single handing it can be challenging.
Can’t really think of anything else. We would have stayed here longer if they had space for us. As it was we enjoyed our one week and appreciate the harbormaster’s hospitality.
